Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my lamp shade feel/look like it has a coat of oil on it? |
Your lamp shade has been coated with oil in the final stages of production to protect the solder. You can remove this oil by gently buffing the inside and outside with a clean paper towel. Be sure to turn the towel frequently. |

Why do the individual pieces of glass vary in color and texture? |
Your lamp is handcrafted from the finest quality art glass. Each piece of glass will vary in color and texture. This is not a defect, but rather part of the uniqueness and beauty of your lamp. Your lamp is truly a “one of a kind” treasure. |

Why does the solder on my lamp appear to have a white residue? |
Over time, the solder may oxidize. To restore the solder to its original condition, apply a small amount of lemon oil or mineral oil to the affected area. Gently wipe excess oil with a clean dry paper towel. Do not substitute cooking oil, as this will cause dust and residue to build up and create a dull film on your lamp. |

Can I use Windex to clean my lamp? |
No. Products containing ammonia should never be used to clean your lamp. To maintain the beauty of your lamp, routinely wipe with a clean, dry paper towel. You may also use a lemon oil based furniture polish to clean heavy dust build-up. Please see our Care section for more information. |

Can I use energy efficient light bulbs in my lamp? |
Yes. You may use an energy efficient (compact fluorescent) bulb if available in the specified bulb type and wattage. |
|
|
How is the height and shade diameter of my lamp measured? |
Height is measured from the top of the lamp – including the finial – to the bottom of the lamp base. Shade diameter is measured from the extreme edges of the lamp (opposing point to opposing point).

Why does the art glass in my lamp sound and feel plasticky? Is it real glass? |
Absolutely, it is real glass. Your lamp is made from high quality art glass. When the glass is cut into small pieces and soldered together to make the shade, the vibration it gives off feels more like plastic when touched or tapped. This is because the vibration is dampened by soldering the small pieces of glass together. When you touch the glass, you are actually feeling the stain coating that was applied to the glass. Rest assured your Royal Palace lamp is made of real glass. If you accidentally drop the shade, it will break. |
